National Strategic Health Development Plan (NSHDP) 2010 - 2015

Successive Governments have strived to improve the health status of Nigerians. Through a series of national development plans and annual budgets, modest progress was made, in the past. Over the past decade however, there have been major reversals on the gains of the health sector. Childhood immunization plummeted and life expectancy reportedly dropped to mid 40-years. Unfortunately, the strides in the sector have been much too slow.

Infant and Young Child Feeding Policy

The overall goal of the National Policy on Infant and Young Child Feeding in Nigeria is to ensure the optimal growth, protection and development of the Nigerian child from birth to the first five years of life. The draft policy issued in 2005 reaffirms government’s commitment to optimal feeding of all children from birth, as a public health measure, and the implementation of the global strategy for infant and young child feeding for improved child survival.

On 8 September 2000, a total of 189 countries including Nigeria, adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration, recognising that they have a duty to human development.

Policy on a National Health Management Information System
