Vision Statement
A vibrant department that is responsive to the evolving health needs of Nigerians


Mission Statement
To contribute towards the provision of optimal health for all Nigerians in line with existing National Health Policy.


Mandate
To coordinate the formulation of Public health policies and guide-lines; and support their implementation and evaluation in Nigeria through health promotion, surveillance and prevention
Develop policies and supervise the implementation of Integrated Family Health Services in line with the Health-Related Goals, Targets and Indicators, i.e.,
•·Reduce Child Mortality
•·Improve Maternal Health
•·Improve Maternal Health
•·Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other diseases

FUNCTION
1.·To develop policies and issue guidelines for all public health related issues
2.·To develop policies and supervise the implementation of Integrated Family Health services in line with the Health-Related Millennium Goals, Targets and Indicators.
3.·To provide technical support to states and LGAs in accordance with the National Health ACT
4.·To develop and supervise the implementation of programmes and projects to control communicable and non-communicable diseases in the country
5.·To coordinate the inputs from local and international development partners into the public health programmes and projects.

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH

We, the Director and staff of the Department of Public Health of the federal Ministry of Health, noting the contents of the Service Charter of the Federal Ministry of Health, We RE-AFFIRM our commitment to improving the quality of life of Nigerians by ensuring that right policies and standards are set for the attainment of a healthy people in a healthy environment and reduction of mortality and morbidity due to diseases.

MINDFUL of the health needs and rights of Nigerians, we are committed to providing information and guidelines of the prevention and control of diseases and attainment of quality health at the highest possible level.

AWARE of the imminent role of health promotion and education as a key factor in influencing behaviour change, the availability of portable water, sanitary environment, and good laboratory services as toll to prevention of illnesses.

INSPIRED by the vision and mission statement of the Department, the Health Sector Reform Agenda of Federal Ministry of Health as well as the health components of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS)

RENEWING our commitment to effectively coordinate, provide guidelines and standard support and monitor the implementation of good public health practice in order to enhance good health outcomes.
1.·Hereby enter the following solemn pact with Nigerians:
We dedicate ourselves to providing effective, efficient, quality and comprehensive public health services to Nigerians.
2.To this end, the Director and staff of the Department of Public Health will
   a. Commit ourselves to provision of preventive health; and promote health information to improve the awareness of consumers of the determinants of health;
   b. Strengthen the capacity of service provide in the Departments to deliver technical sound, timely, fair, honest, courteous and transparent service to all Nigerians.
   c. Foster Public/Private Partnership along with Developments Partners, NGOs, CBOs, etc. to enhance good public health practice at all levels of the Health Care Delivery      Service.
   d. Provide monitoring and evaluation of Public Health Programmes at Primary Secondary and Tertiary Health Care Levels.
