Mission
To develop and implement policies and programmes that enhances the standard of living, and improves the quality of life of the Nigerian people. To support efficient and effective health services: reproductive health, maternal, neonatal and child health, sound nutrition, and improved infant feeding. Through active community participation we aim to reduce maternal, neonatal, infant and child morbidity and mortality.
Mandate
The Family Health Department’s mandate includes ensuring and improvement in the standard of living and quality of life of the Nigerian citizen and creating awareness on Reproductive, Maternal Neonatal and Child Health. Ensuring sound nutrition (which includes Infant and Young Child feeding, care of the Elderly and adolescent are some of the health issues addressed by the Department. Core
Departmental Functions
The Family Health Department’s core functions include:
- To develop, coordinate and implement policies and strategies, using Information, Education & Communication and Building Capacity to provide Nigerian Child, Adolescent, Mother & Elderly with an improved and sustained quality health services including improved nutritional status to reduce Maternal Mortality and Infant Mortality Rates and significantly increase the life expectancy of Nigerians.
- Effective coordination of activities and creation of awareness on Nutrition, Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, Gender, Adolescent Health Development, School Health. Elderly Care and Wellbeing that proactively contributes to overall family health in Nigeria.
- Ensure collaboration with all Departments within FMOH, line Ministries and Development Partners and other relevant stakeholders to promote quality services and empower individuals and communities to make informed decisions about their health thereby ensuring sustained healthy life style and quality of life of Nigerians. and mortality.
